Playful birds are brought to much-larger-than-life scale in OISEAU, a luxurious wool and silk rug that is 150 knots per square inch.
Oiseau, Butterflies and Bees and Peacock (collaborations with Candice Kaye) and the Tommy Smythe x Kate Thornley-Hall Collection are the newest additions to the line of handwoven custom carpets Kate first launched in 2007. Upon returning to Toronto after a 20-year sojourn in London, England, Kate was keen to outfit the interiors she was designing with rugs in vivid colours and bold patterns, but they were not easily found in Canada at the time. After meticulous research, Kate established partnerships that would make her vision a reality and create carpets that she and her fellow designers could specify for interior design projects. She enlisted the skills of up-and-coming Canadian artists to translate her ideas to designs, and commissioned family-run workshops in Nepal and India to bring the carpets to life. The resulting diverse collection is truly "art you can walk on."

The BUTTERFLIES AND BEES design brings nature indoors. Handwoven in Nepal, this rug is a luxurious blend of wool and silk with 150 knots per square inch.
PEACOCK originated as a custom commission for one of Kate's clients who keeps the showy birds on her property north of Toronto (yes, they can endure Canadian winters!). Now this handwoven silk design joins the collection.

In a collaboration with Canadian design and media personality Tommy Smythe, the traditional kilim is reinterpreted in bold colourways as well as quieter palettes. Based on antique motifs and handwoven in Nepal and India, these hard-wearing wool rugs make a statement used singly or layered in multiples in a casual country setting or urban contemporary space.

Wallpapers & Table Linens

The Kate Thornley-Hall wallpaper collection features patterns inspired by some of Kate's favourite places and people. Palms (above, top) from the Cayman Islands Collection, and Creemore Toile (centre), a pastoral print named for the rural community north of Toronto near Kate's own weekend escape. Parrots (above, left), is another print inspired by the tropics, while Peacock (above, centre) and Butterflies and Bees (above, right) were both designed with countryside friends in mind and realized in collaboration with Candice Kaye.

Table linens bring the Kate Thornley-Hall signature palette and sense of occasion to the table any time of year. Trellis, Sugar Birds and Beach are three of the six patterns in the collection and were designed in collaboration with Toronto textile designer Senay Gunbaz. The textile collection also includes throw pillows, with fabrics by the yard coming soon.

The Kate Thornley-Hall collection is available through the freshly redesigned katethornleyhall.com, which is also home to Kate's interior design portfolio, filled with sophisticated, happy rooms that reflect her affection for bold colour and a mix of antique and contemporary furnishings.
